what We Are about
Academy Background / History
The Toronto Tennis Academy opened its doors for the first time in 1997, with Peter Cameron as the Head Coach. Based out of Greenwin Tennis Club, we quickly started to develop players with the skills and interest to train hard enough to become provincial, national, and, in some cases, international-level players.
That tradition continued, and in 2017, the TTA and Mayfair Racquet Clubs formally joined forces at Mayfair East to establish a high-quality tennis program focused on starting young players on the road to high performance. This partnership has grown into the success it is today, with both a highly respected progressive ball pathway and a competitive pathway for players in the older age groups.
Developmental Priorities
The coaching staff at the Toronto Tennis Academy have many years of experience balancing the demands that high-performance tennis places on young athletes with the natural need for children to play, compete, and learn together. Once we have students who are motivated to improve and understand how to learn, we focus on providing them with the technical skills and movement patterns needed to reach higher levels of performance and precision.
We are committed to teaching the most efficient movement and stroke patterns to our students and use progressive balls (Red, Orange, and Green) and appropriately sized courts to support this development. We host a variety of competitive opportunities that help students learn the fundamentals of the game more quickly while building the confidence needed to play on a full court.
We view playing and competing as central parts of the learning process. As such, we provide a variety of competitive opportunities for our students to deepen their understanding of the game’s fundamentals and develop the confidence to play a full-court, aggressive style of tennis.
The Long Term Pathway
Students come to us at different ages and with varying skill levels. Based on each student's age, experience, and abilities, we create a development plan tailored to their needs. Our goal is to help players progress along the competitive tennis pathway, from club-level competition to provincial, national, and international events, and ultimately to university tennis opportunities. The path each player follows depends on the skills they develop and the time, effort, and commitment they devote to the sport.
We aim to prepare our students to compete in Ontario at the youngest appropriate age. Achieving this requires high-quality training and a structured development process that helps players reach their goals. We are constantly looking for new ways to broaden our students' experiences in tennis and provide opportunities for growth both on and off the court.
